Vintage Farm Party

Does your child just love animals, especially the kind on Old Macdonald's Farm? For this 4 year old animal fan, we contacted a local farm and asked if we could host a "farm party". Turns out they did have the space available, all we needed was cowboy hats, some red gingham, simple food and a bit of decor. Vintage toys were used as the main centerpiece and the cake was transformed into a busy barn yard. See how easy and inexpensive you can create you own farm party below!

This healthy cake and frosting was made by using the Chocolate Ganache Sugar Free Gluten mix from Sweetiecakesco.com. Simply add water, and coconut oil and you are ready to go! For the frosting we added some real butter to the mix as well as the all natural sweetener Lakanto by Body Ecology. For the base we simply covered a piece of cardboard with a scrap of Gingham fabric and placed the cake on it. Next we added a red gingham ribbon around the perimeter of  the cake to add some farm flair. Then some "dirt" by using graham cracker crumbs (however if you are needing to stay gluten free any gluten free cereal can be used in place of the graham cracker). For a bit of "grass" we colored some unsweetened organic coconut by using natural food color, we like Indiatree.com. Favorite farm animal toys, a toy fence and tree was placed around the cake, as well as a little wagon and toy flower pot (Don't forget to wash all toys 1st in a dishwasher before placing on cake). Behind the cake was an old fisher price barn yard from the 1970's. Raffia was stuffed inside, and we used stickers and paper from a grocery bag to decorate the toy barn. Red gingham table cloths covered the guests tables, and sunflowers were placed in old fashioned mason jars.

Party favor bags were made by using brown bag lunch sacks. The name tags were simply copies of a darling farm scene out of an old vintage book and the guests names were added (using a word processor). Inside the favor bags were farm stickers, a few plastic farm animals, a homemade CD that included favorite country music tunes.

Water bottles were the created by simply removing the product's original paper and then printing (using a word program) our message to guests as well as including the vintage picture from an old book. Attach the paper by using 2 sided tape.

The children really loved being on the farm and seeing all the animals, feeding them, mining for minerals and even going on a hay ride. To have your own farm party contact a local farm and ask if they have room for you, you'd be surprised how many farms are open to serving the community in this way. This will be a party everyone will remember, especially the birthday child!
