Teddy Bear Picnic

For this one year old’s birthday we chose a Teddy Bear Picnic theme held at a nearby park. The décor was simply balloons and red wagons filled with teddy bears. We also made a oversized picnic blanket out of sewing together gingham oil cloth. The food was a old fashioned picnic style, chicken, potato salad and homemade ice cream and cake from Sweetie Cakes Co. Your child's 1st birthday is such a momentous occasion for everyone.  There are some things to consider that will ensure that the day is easy and smooth.

Who to Invite:

Keep is small. Large crowds can overwhelm young children. To keep the birthday star comfortable consider only inviting close family and a just a few friends. The general rule for the number of children to invite is the child’s age + 1, it can be tough to limit friends to such a small number but keeping it small can help the birthday guest feel less overwhelmed.

Time of day:

Always consider nap time, at one year, most children are still taking a morning nap as well as an afternoon nap. Lunchtime is probably the best slot to choose. This way your child is rested, however will be able to take another much needed nap after the party.

Keep it Simple:

1 year olds don’t need much décor or busy activities to entertain them. The world is eye candy! Consider holding your party at a nearby park, or better yet in your own backyard. This way you can set up for the party when your child is napping and do clean up when nap #2 is in place. Keep things short, sweet and uncomplicated.
