Race Car Party
Wed, July 21, 2010
Our little boy is in love with race cars. It started off with an affinity for the movie “Cars” and grew into a full infatuation with anything car related. Scarily he tells us he wants to be a racecar driver “when he grows up”, and of course chose that as his Halloween costume. So, on his birthday what better theme to work off of than a race car party. It’s such a popular theme that you’ll have no problem finding all the right décor and fixings.
Décor:
We purchased a black and white checkered tablecloth to set the stage for all the food at a local party supply store. Underneath that we used a plain red tablecloth to off set the colors. A remote control racecar was placed upon a cake pedestal to use as a centerpiece. Red white and blue balloons jazzed up the party. Food tables we draped with red and white gingham to tie into the checkered theme.

The Cake:
The cake was a figure eight racetrack. We were inspired to make it after seeing the idea on www.familyfun.com. The cake mix was gluten free, dairy free, & sugar free purchased at sweetiecakesco.com. (Although the cake directions called for some non healthy cake toppers, we modified it by getting creative with items purchased at a local health food store. To replace the Oreo cookies we used an organic gluten free chocolate cookie, and the Good and Plenty candy was replaced by using a simple straight line of our Sweetie Cakes frosting, The green sprinkles were replaced by using dried coconut died with a natural green food color). Gold metal “piston cup” candles were bought at a local party supply store, our son’s favorite. It was easy and fun.
Party Favors
Red, white and silver party boxes were purchased at birthdayexpress.com. They were filled with a Hot Wheel car, a plastic gold metal necklace, Cars stickers, a Lightning McQueen ice pack and sandwich box (all purchased at Target). Water bottles were customized by removing the original label, creating our own on a word processor and attaching it with two-sided tape.
Activities:
A jumpy house occupied most of the kids time as well as using car toys we already owned and simply setting them out to play with. It all was simple, easy and best of all adored by the birthday boy!
